South Beach and Miami's Neighborhoods

South Beach's Art Deco Historic District and its wide sandy beach are Miami's most recognisable draw, but the city has plenty beyond it: Wynwood's street-art-covered warehouses, Little Havana's Cuban culture and cafés, and Brickell's modern skyline and nightlife.

Most first-time visitors base themselves in South Beach for walkability and beach access, using rideshares for evening trips to Wynwood or Little Havana.

Best Time to Visit

December through April is Miami's dry season and peak tourist period — warm, sunny, and comfortable, though hotel prices climb accordingly, especially around the holidays and spring break (March).

Summer (June–September) is hot, humid, and falls within hurricane season, but it's also when hotel rates drop and the city is noticeably quieter.

Day Trips: The Everglades and the Keys

Everglades National Park is under an hour from downtown Miami and offers airboat tours through the wetlands — a completely different landscape from the city's beaches, home to alligators, manatees, and a huge range of bird life.

The Florida Keys, connected by the scenic Overseas Highway, make for a memorable multi-day extension if time allows, with Key West at the southern tip roughly a 3.5-hour drive from Miami.

Food and Culture

Miami's food scene reflects its Latin American and Caribbean influences — Cuban sandwiches and café con leche in Little Havana, fresh seafood along the coast, and a fast-growing fine-dining scene in the Design District and Brickell.

Art lovers should time a visit around Art Basel Miami (early December) or simply wander Wynwood any time of year for its ever-changing outdoor murals.
