Why Visit Mount Fuji

Japan's tallest and most iconic peak is a symbol of the country itself. Most visitors view it from the surrounding Fuji Five Lakes region rather than climbing it, enjoying reflections, hot springs and easy day trips from Tokyo.

Best Viewing Spots

Lake Kawaguchiko offers the classic postcard reflection view and is the most accessible base, about 2 hours from Tokyo. The Chureito Pagoda nearby is one of the most photographed Fuji views in the world, especially during cherry blossom season.

Hakone combines Fuji views with hot springs (onsen) and is popular for its ropeway and lake cruise with Fuji as a backdrop on clear days.

Climbing Mount Fuji

The official climbing season is July-September. It's a demanding overnight hike, typically timed to reach the summit for sunrise, and requires proper gear and preparation even though no technical climbing skill is needed.

Best Time to Go

Fuji is most visible on clear winter mornings (December-February), though the climbing season and cherry blossom season (April) are the most popular times to visit the area.
